The curry leaf plant (Bergera koenigii or Murraya koenigii) grows in tropical to sub-tropical regions. Sometimes, this plant is also called sweet neem. This plant belongs to the rue (Rutaceae) family, which includes satinwood, rue, and citrus.
Native to the Indian subcontinent, it grows prolifically in India and Sri Lanka. For this reason, the curry leaves have a predominant role in various dishes of these regions. It also has medicinal value.
Curry leaf plant, in general, is a small bush or herb. It grows only about 13β20 feet (4β6 m) tall and has a trunk of about 16 in (40 cm) in diameter. The leaves grow alternately like feathers (Pinnation).
They also have a heady and spicy aromatic scent. It is especially profound in fresh leaves.
