Eriogonum giganteum 'St. Catherine's Lace'

A perennial shrub with a mounding habit. Leaves are oval, woolly and gray-green. Flat-topped clusters of tiny, lacy flowers emerge in off-white to light pink, and mature to rusty-red. Beneficial for wildlife, birds, and pollinators, especially butterflies. Native to the Channel Islands.

Growing St. Catherine's Lace

  • Plant in a location with full sun exposure, ensuring it receives at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily for optimal growth.
  • Provide well-draining soil, as St. Catherine's Lace prefers sandy or loamy soil types to prevent water-logging, which can lead to root rot.
  • Water sparingly once established, as it is drought-tolerant and prefers dry conditions. Allow the soil to dry out between watering sessions.
  • Prune lightly after flowering to remove spent blooms and maintain its attractive shape.
  • St. Catherine's Lace is hardy in USDA zones 7-10 and thrives in warm, arid climates.
