Society Garlic Tulbaghia violacea
Society Garlic, Tulbaghia violacea, is an excellent ornamental plant with bluish green leaves and flower clusters that can add color to any landscape style! In addition to adding interest to gardens, their leaves can be chopped up like garlic chives for use in stir-fries, salads, soups, and more!
Plant CharacteristicsÂ
Native to South Africa, we like to plant these slightly fragrant perennials in beds and borders, rock gardens, courtyards, along pathways, and in any location where a colorful, low-maintenance plant is desired.
These colorful little grassy accents thrive in a location with full sun exposure.
Once established, they can have a high drought tolerance with low to moderate water needs. They also have good heat tolerance so that they are ideal for growing in any Southwestern landscape. As a bonus, Society Garlic is virtually pest and disease free! And don't be fooled by their pretty and delicate appearance, these are tough little plants that can recover quickly from frost damage!
