One Purple Crape Myrtle Lagerstromia indica ‘Catawba’

The plant is currently growing in a one gallon container, but will be shipped with the roots wrapped in damp paper towels and with plastic and ready to plant upon arrival. The plant will be between 12 to 14 inches in height. Planting guidelines will also be included.

This stunning ornamental shrub produces volumes of deep purple frilly blooms in summer, followed by scarlet red fall foliage; captivating focal point for the garden or border; also good for container planting. Catawba Crapemyrtle is covered in stunning panicles of deep purple frilly flowers at the ends of the branches from mid to late summer. It has attractive dark green foliage which emerges coppery-bronze in spring. The oval leaves are highly ornamental and turn scarlet in fall. The fruit is not ornamentally significant.

Catawba Crape Myrtle is a dense multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with an upright spreading habit of growth. Its relatively fine texture sets it apart from other landscape plants with less refined foliage. This is a relatively low maintenance shrub, and is best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed. It has no significant negative characteristics.

A superb mid sized Crape Myrtle selection with nice dark purple blooms in mid to late summer ( typically July thru September ). Foliage is very dark green throughout the season, turning bright red in the fall. Good sturdy growth habit - slightly more globose in habit than many other Crapes. This plant has shown good resistance to powdery mildew. This variety is definitely one of the more popular of all the Crape Myrtles that we grow. Good growth rate, and excellent bloom production.

Deciduous shrub or small tree. Slow growing with upright, oval form. Small dark-green oval leaves. Abundance of deeply lavender-colored flowers throughout summer. Smooth, tan mature bark. Orange/red fall color. Drought tolerant once established
