Narrowleaf Milkweed
The Narrowleaf milkweed plant is an attractive herbaceous perennial plant. It begins to grow in the spring and the stalks reach the full height of 2 to 4 feet tall in the summer. In late summer the plant blooms with nectar-rich white and pink flowers which are attractive to native bees and butterflies.
Native to western North America, this easy care plant is a must-have in a wildlife garden. Clusters of lavender-tinted white flowers bloom above thin stems whorled with long, pointed leaves. Ideal for naturalized areas, meadows, and borders.
Growing Narrowleaf Milkweed
- Plant Narrowleaf Milkweed in a location with full sun exposure, ensuring it receives at least 6 hours of sunlight daily for optimal growth and blooming.
- Water the plant moderately, allowing the soil to dry out between watering sessions to prevent overwatering and root rot.
- Use well-draining soil, such as sandy or loamy soil, to promote healthy root development and prevent waterlogging.
- Narrowleaf Milkweed is drought-tolerant once established and thrives in USDA hardiness zones 6-10.
- Prune the plant in late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged stems and encourage new growth, as well as to control its size and shape.
