Japanese Snowbell
Japanese Snowbell
Styrax Japonicus - Japanese Snowbell is a lovely, deciduous, strong, woody tree with a gracefully, wide spreading structure of branches and rounded crown. In late spring to early summer, along with the foliage, a profusion of slightly fragrant, white, bell-shaped flowers with showy yellow stamens bloom and drip, like snowdrops, from strong horizontal side branches. Leaves are finely pointed, ovate, and glossy dark green, which turns a shade of yellow to red in the fall. Bark is a smooth gray, later maturing and shedding its outer layer to reveal an orange inner bark within during winter. This is a splendid small tree to use adjacent to a patio or near a pathway to admire its structure, foliage and dainty blooms.
