The desert globe mallow Sphaeralcea ambigua is a perennial shrub native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It thrives in arid desert environments and is known for its resilience to drought.  It has silvery-gray, hairy leaves and can grow up to 3 feet tall. The plant's stems are covered in fine hairs, giving it a soft, fuzzy appearance.

The globe mallow produces clusters of bright orange to apricot-colored flowers, which are cup-shaped and about 1 inch in diameter. These blooms typically appear from spring to early fall, attracting various pollinators, including bees and butterflies.

This plant is commonly found in sandy or gravelly soils, often in open areas like deserts, washes, and along roadsides.  Beyond its ornamental value in xeriscaping and native plant gardens, the desert globe mallow has traditional uses in herbal medicine, often for its purported anti-inflammatory properties.
