Low Boy Prostrate Acacia

The Acacia redolens 'Low Boy' (Prostrate Acacia) is a low-growing shrub to 1 to 2 feet tall by 10 to 15 feet wide with dense habit and much branched with stems covered with narrow 2 to 4 inch long gray-green leaves (technically phyllodes). Small vanilla scented yellow flowers appear in spring but are not very showy. Tolerant of very dry conditions and requires no irrigation once established in coastal gardens and infrequent watering in hot inland areas and grows well in moderately alkaline soils and windy coastal situations.

Growing Low Boy Prostrate Acacia

  • Plant the Low Boy Prostrate Acacia (Acacia redolens 'Low Boy') in a location with full sun exposure, ensuring it receives ample sunlight for optimal growth.
  • Provide well-draining soil, such as sandy or loamy soil, to prevent water-logging and root rot, promoting healthy root development.
  • Water regularly during the plant's establishment period, then adjust to a moderate watering schedule, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings.
  • Prune lightly to maintain its prostrate form and remove any dead or damaged growth, promoting a neat and tidy appearance.
  • The Low Boy Prostrate Acacia is drought-tolerant once established and is hardy in USDA zones 9-11. It is suitable for ground cover, erosion control, and as a low-maintenance landscape plant.
