Arctostaphylos uva-ursi ‘Point Reyes’ Bearberry Manzanita

Arctostaphylos uva-ursi is an evergreen shrub known as Point Reyes Manzanita. Native to California, this plant bears small edible berries and is an important part of the local ecosystem. Its natural beauty and versatility make it a popular choice for landscaping and reforestation projects. Arctostaphylos ‘Point Reyes’ has the heat tolerance common to the species, with a slightly larger and more closely set dark green leaf. This plant does not spread much faster than any of the other varieties in the species, but given mulch between individual plants, it can be used with great success for long-term hillside stabilization. The fruit from this plant is also edible.

Growing Point Reyes Manzanita

  • Plant in well-draining soil and provide full sun exposure for best growth.
  • Water sparingly, as Point Reyes Manzanita is drought-tolerant once established.
  • Prune lightly to maintain its natural shape and remove any dead or damaged growth.
  • Avoid heavy fertilization, as this plant thrives in nutrient-poor soil.
  • Protect from extreme temperatures and frost, particularly during the first few years after planting.
